Rejected Jury Duty Exemption?

orangeskye Asked: Rejected Jury Duty Exemption?

I'm very unhappy right now. I received a jury summons a month ago that was actually sent to my old address, thankfully the people who live there now forwarded it to me! Anyway, I asked for an exemption from service based on a medical reason. I have social anxiety disorder & irritable bowel syndrome. I called on the phone and they told me to just send the form back with a letter explaining my situation & I would get an exemption. So that's what I did. Except I just received another letter saying it was denied! I would just go and tell them at the court house on the day I am summoned, except that I usually cannot even think about leaving the house before noon because of my IBS.

I just don't understand why they would not grant me an exemption. I did what they told me to do and they still denied it. In my area, you get a failure to appear charge if you do not go to jury duty! This is stressing me out so much.

Any advice on what I should do?

You probably didn't send in proof you actually had these problems. You can either go or face the consequences for not going when ordered to

Did you send a letter from your doctor or just you writing it?

For a medical condition, you need a professional letter.Have your doctor write you an excuse and send that in.

Alot of people just make up stuff to get out of jury duty.
